Initial Consult and Assessment appointments are 1.5 hours in length. Depending on the complexity of your training needs, the assessment portion will take about 20-30 minutes. Jillian will ask questions about your pet's history and together we will discuss your behavioural concerns and training goals. The proceeding hour will focus on developing an individualized training plan for your family and pet(s), then we'll get started with positive, fear-free, hands-on practice.
Follow-up appointments are one hour in length and pick up where the initial consult left off. Once you and your pet(s) have had some time to practice and work on what you've learned, we'll evaluate your progress, adjust your training plan as needed, and proceed with the next steps.
Between appointments our certified professional and certified fear-free trainer, Jillian Enright, will be available to provide further resources and to answer follow-up questions as needed.
The practice and time invested in between appointments is the most important piece, as training takes time and complex behavioural issues cannot be property and humanely addressed in an hour or two. Jillian will work with you and your pet with a non-judgemental, compassionate approach, helping you reach your training goals in a way that works for your family.
Please be aware of our cancellation policies prior to booking your training appointment.
Please contact Jillian at Jillian@PawsitiveCare.ca as soon as possible as our training appointments book up very quickly.

While Manitoba, or our areas of the province, are under an "orange" advisory for Covid-19, training appointments will need to be virtual held or outside. If we need to be inside for a short period of time for training needs, please ensure there is adequate space to facilitate social distancing (6 feet apart).
All staff and clients will be required to self-screen prior to appointments. If anyone is experiencing any symptoms, the appointment will either be held virtually or rescheduled.
We will bring treats with us, but please have some of your pet's favourite food or treats on hand to ensure we have a high value reinforcer available.
**Please let us know if your pets have any health issues, dietary restrictions, and/or allergies.
Please also let us know if anyone in your household has severe allergies, as some of our treats could contain allergens such as peanut butter.
Please have a regular, 6-foot long nylon leash and a regular buckle collar for dog training appointments. These can be found at any retail pet store if you don't already own one.
If you prefer, and if we are working on leash manners, you may also wish to have a properly-fitting ergonomic harness and/or a properly-fitting head collar such as a Gentle Leader or Halti.
*Please note that we do not use retractable leashes in training. Pawsitive Pet Care does not use any choke, prong, or shock collars in our training process. Our goal is to support you and your pet(s) in building a positive working, playing, and living relationship without the use of fear, pain, or intimidation. Training can and should be both effective and FUN.
Please feel free to write down questions you have for our trainer to ensure we cover everything you feel is important to your training goals.
Please also feel free to take notes during the initial consult as it is easy to forget some of what is discussed in a 1.5 hour long appointment.
Please be aware of our cancellation policies prior to booking your training appointment, and confirm your date and time with our office.
Please feel free to email Jillian@PawsitiveCare.ca with any questions.
