Jillian moved to Winnipeg from Toronto in 2007 and spent her first three years in Winnipeg studying Psychology with an emphasis on Animal Learning and Behaviour Modification at the University of Winnipeg. Jillian has been walking and training dogs professionally since 2010.
Jillian is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), meaning her knowledge on animal learning theory, husbandry, health, ethology, training equipment, and instructing skills have all been evaluated to the standard of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. This also includes adherence to a code of ethics and to the humane hierarchy for animal training.
As an evidence-based professional, Jillian also attends continuing education conferences, workshops, seminars, completes online courses, and continuously studies animal behaviour. Jillian became certified as a fear-free professional in November 2016 and then received her fear-free animal trainer's certification in December 2018.
Jillian is also a proud member of the Pet Professional Guild. The PPG's vision is "A world where people and pets can live together to their mutual benefit and where pets can live and function free from physical and mental pain, stress and fear as valued family members."
Jillian spent five years working as a Behaviour Specialist for the Winnipeg Humane Society from 2013 to 2018. During her time working in the Behaviour Department, Jillian conducted behavioural assessments, planned & implemented behaviour modification programs, provided enrichment and positive reinforcement training for both cats and dogs in the care of the WHS.
Using an evidence-based approach including positive reinforcement, Jillian will help you develop a fun living and working relationship with your pets.
Please note that during the Coronavirus restrictions, Jillian will only be offering virtual training consultations.
Please be advised that as of September 2017 Jillian's son has begun full time school and Jillian's family does not have after-school childcare. Jillian's primary working hours will be between 9am - 3pm while her child is in school. This also means Jillian may not be available on statutory holidays, P.D., school closure days, and summer holidays.
Our fantastic team of pet care providers is still available for dog walking and pet sitting on an as-needed basis.
Jillian became certified as a fear-free professional in November 2016 and then received her fear-free animal trainer's certification in December 2018.
Pawsitive Pet Care does not use fear, intimidation, pain, harsh corrections, or anything that would cause an animal distress in the delivery of our services.
